5 Most Evil People in the Bible according to Africans

Gaskiyagospel.com conducted a simple survey in Randburg, northern Johannesburg, South Africa on who Africans think are the “EVILEST” people in the Bible and they said: “Herod “the great”, Jephthah, Jezebel, Abimelech and Jehoram.

Here the reasons Africans for picking their “bad men and women of the Bible”!

Herod was King at the time of Christ for his massacre of innocent children. in his attempt to kill baby Jesus whom he thought would wrestle throne with him.

When heard of the birth of Christ and, wanting to prevent a replacement king, he ordered the murder of all newborns in the village of Bethlehem (the place of Christ’s birth) – Mathew 2:16-18.

We didn’t know Jephthah will make the list, but the people have spoken.

Judges 11:29-35

“Then the Spirit of the Lord came on Jephthah. He crossed Gilead and Manasseh, passed through Mizpah of Gilead, and from there he advanced against the Ammonites. 30 And Jephthah made a vow to the Lord: “If you give the Ammonites into my hands, 31 whatever comes out of the door of my house to meet me when I return in triumph from the Ammonites will be the Lord’s, and I will sacrifice it as a burnt offering.”

32 Then Jephthah went over to fight the Ammonites, and the Lord gave them into his hands. 33 He devastated twenty towns from Aroer to the vicinity of Minnith, as far as Abel Keramim. Thus Israel subdued Ammon.

34 When Jephthah returned to his home in Mizpah, who should come out to meet him but his daughter, dancing to the sound of timbrels! She was an only child. Except for her, he had neither son nor daughter. 35 When he saw her, he tore his clothes and cried, “Oh no, my daughter! You have brought me down and I am devastated. I have made a vow to the Lord that I cannot break.”

Majority of Africans say he should have renegotiated and God may have understood. They believe he was insensitive and only overzealous about keeping his word. A few others though his word was his worth.

3: Jezebel was a popular consensus though some still gave a her a pass for being a faithful wife to her husband despite her evil deeds.

the wife of King Ahag  who ruled the kingdom of Israel. She interfered with the worship of Jehovah and disregarded the rights of the common people. She defied prophets  Elijah and Elisha and provoked the troubles that weakened Israel for decades. She has come to be known as the archetype of the Bible Evil Woman. Over 80% of respondents rate her as evil.

She persuaded King Ahab to introduce the worship of the Tyrian god Baal-Melkart -a nature god. Her ‘evil’ energy was fierce bringing down all those try to oppose her. Many prophet of Yahweh were killed at her command.

She was trailed by intrigue, sex, cruelty, and murder. She fought to impose pagan worship to the kingdom of Israel but Queen Jezebel ended her evil with a terrible and theatric price. She was thrown from a high window, with her unattended body devoured by dogs, fulfilling the prediction of Elijah, Yahweh’s prophet and Jezebel’s nemesis. Jezebel’s death is found is 2Kings 9:30-17. Her other story started from 1 Kings Chapters 16:29 when Ahab became King.

4: Abimelech who he killed seventy brothers and became king made the list.

“And he came to his father’s house in Ephra, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerobaal, seventy men, upon one stone: and there remained only Joatham the youngest son of Jerobaal, who was hidden” – Judges 9:5.

5: Jehoram reigned jointly with his father for a while but, realizing his father’s time was drawing short, he decided he needed to cement his place as sole ruler of the Kingdom of Judah. He took a sword and slashed the throats of his brothers.
“When Jehoram established himself firmly over his father’s kingdom, he put all his brothers to the sword along with some of the officials of Israel” 2 Chronicles 21:4.

It’s shocking that only 10% of the people surveyed mentioned Judas as evil man. Shall we say Africans love Judas or forgive Judas?
