Bishop David Olaniyi Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church World Wide popularly known as Winners Chapel is arguably the richest pastor in the world.
The Nigerian author, businessman, architect, and the founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, and presiding Bishop of the Faith Tabernacle in Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria had said in one of his messages about 10 years ago that no church in the United States of America was as rich as Winners Chapel.
Implicitly, he also meant no pastor was as rich as him though he had to say that indirectly so he does not come off as being proud.
Many analysts say Prophet Keneth Copeland is the richest pastor in the world with a net worth of about $300 million and that he is followed by Oyedepo at $150.
But Prophet Oyedepo had always sarcastically laughed off the assertion that he is worth $150 million. He wisely told people at Living Word Christian Center – Pastor Bill Winston’s church – that he was worth more than $150 million.
The best worship of Jesus: take a listen
In his words: “Some fellow said I was worth 150 million dollars. I said that’s an insult”
He further used wisdom to mention his worth: “I am worth…Phillipans 4:19 – My God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus”.
Then to confirm that saying he’s worth $150 million was an insult, he said: “150 million dollars… too small that can’t be…that can’t be..”
Those who Prophet Oyedepo closely revealed he is worth at least $1 billion, with investments in real estate, education, and book publishing, among others.
Investigations also revealed that it is easier for pastors to be richer in Nigerian than in many western nations. Many western nations are strict on financial transparency and accountability compared to Nigeria: hence it is easier to accumulate wealth, without recourse to transparency and accountability in Nigeria.
Prophet Oydepo, who discovered secrets to Kingdom prosperity in 1981 said God delivered from the trap of debt in October 1981. “ I have never owed any man a dime since 1981”, he declared vocally.
Thirty years ago, he went on a ‘kingdom prosperity fact-finding mission” and took with him the books of Pastor Copeland and his Bible.
The prophet said God told him on the mission concerning prosperity: “My prosperity plan is not a promise so it does not answer to prayers. It’s not a promise and has no respect for fasting. My prosperity plan is a covenant. Until your part is played I am not committed”
Then he asked God: “What is my part?”. And God told him: “Whilst the heaven and earth remains, seedtime and harvest shall not cease. I heard from God. I screamed. I said I can never be poor”.
He added that arduous study of the word plus prayer and fasting must be added to Christians’ lifestyles to maximise their capabilities.
Prophet Oyedepo became a Christian on February 19, 1969. She was led to Christ by a missionary woman from America. He visited the woman a few years ago when he visited Pastor Bill Winston’s church in America.
The only pastor close to Prophet Oyedepo in wealth is Pastor Enoch Adeboye but his humble lifestyle shields him away from the media’s eyes. Some even claim he may be richer than Prophet Oyedepo.
