Given the Bible’s insistence that worship is to be directed to God alone, any God-fearing individual will need a satisfactory answer to this all-important question: Is it right for Christians to worship Jesus?
If Jesus is regarded as a deity in the same sense as His Father, then we should worship Jesus but if He is merely a prophet of God or just a deity only “in the form of God”, the worship of Jesus would not be appropriate.Worship of Jesus: take a listen
Also, if the New Testament documents identify Jesus with Yahweh, then we should worship Jesus.
Apostle Paul, a man you may describe as one of the most authoritative voices of the scriptures who also had a direct and dynamic revelation of Jesus called the Messiah: “our great God and Savior” (Titus 2:13). He also points out that, prior to His incarnation, Jesus existed in the “form of God” (Philippians 2:5–8).
Apostle John says that “in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word [Jesus] was God” (John 1:1). Other passages identify Jesus as the Creator and Sustainer of the universe (John 1:3; Colossians 1:16–17; Hebrews 1:2).
Additionally and very important,Jesus receives worship from birth as a King in Mathew 2:11.
And in several other times in the Gospels, he was worshipped as God and he never rejected the worship and adoration. Rather, He accepts such worship. So, does the Bible portray Jesus as full deity? The answer is certainly “yes.”
In Mathew 28:9 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary worshipped Jesus after his resurrection. And in Mathew 28: 16-17, the Bible says: “Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted”.
Here it is clear if worshipping Jesus was not right, the humble Messiah and the mysterious God-Man would have rejected it.
In Luke 24:50-52 when Jesus was ascended:”When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy”.
In John 20:26-28: “And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!” Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.”And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”
It is important to also state that THE SUPREME DEITY OF JEHOHAV is spelt out in the scriptures: “And when all things shall be subdued unto Him, then shall the Son Himself also be subject unto Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all” – 1 Corinthians 15:28. Actually, the SUPREME DEITY OF THE FATHER has never been question ever.
But the Bible teaches that there is only one God (Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Corinthians 8:4). How can this be? This means one Being who exists in three Persons or dimension. It’s like I am father, a husband, a prophet, a journalist, but I’m still the same person functioning in different dynamic dimensions.
Or you may say, like man is a spirit, has a soul and lives in a body. My spirit is me. My soul is me and my body is still me. But most people know my body, than they know my spirt and my soul. On the earth, my body is the leader of the three. In the spirit, my spirit and my soul are foremost.
On earth now, the Holy Spirit is foremost whilst the father and son are foremost in heaven now.
Phillipians 2:6 says concerning Jesus: “Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God, as something to cling to”.
It is critical to add that Prophet Isaiah prophesied and introduced Jesus before he was born as God. “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder. And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace”.
Additionally, in Hebrews 1:6, God said: “And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says,“Let all God’s angels worship him”.
Also in Revelation 5:13, Jesus was worshipped together with God by “…every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They sang:“Blessing and honor and glory and power, belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever”.
Phillipians 2:10 says “that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father”. This is another Bible verse that some scholars argue connote worshipping Jesus.
Jesus said: “so that everyone will honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Anyone who does not honor the Son is certainly not honoring the Father who sent him” – John 5:23.
